Name: Moira O'Deorain Door: Door Pass: Dominant Canon: Overwatch Canon Point: Up to date with current Overwatch lore (so a bit past Masquerade) Age: 48 Appearance: [SCIENCE] History: [Wiki link] Personality: Moira is, above all else, a scientist, and is incredibly driven to pursue her goals. She desires to ever push scientific knowledge further, and as such is remarkably intelligent, seeking to unlock and manipulate the mysteries of genetics. She is, however, not particularly patient, both when it comes to obtaining this information, and to people who she views as impeding her process. Which is why she plays loose and fast with ethics, morals, and laws, viewing them as inefficient, roadblocks that stifle progress. Why take the time to do things like test safety and do trials, when you can simply do what you were going to do, and simply deal with whatever side effects show up afterwards? Which is to say, she's pretty unconcerned about other people. Her sense of humor can be biting, and she's not afraid to take jabs at others. For the most part, her insults are all steeped in sarcasm, and her tone calm, but mocking. She is, however, pretty good at talking to others when she needs to be--she just doesn't like it. It is, unfortunately, a necessary skill in order to acquire the resources she needs to continue her research, particularly when she's out of favor to the scientific community. Despite this, she cuts an imposing figure, and can be considered intimidating to other people--to the point of making someone cry when she asked them for a favor. This doesn't seem to bother her, and she does little to dissuade this fear in others--unless she needs them for something, of course. Not helping is how unphased she is by any chaos that occurs around her. Did her boss just shoot a man that they were supposed to arrest, inciting an entire city's worth of Talon agents to attempt to kill them? It's a shame that she'll miss the masquerade. The most criticism that she offers is a polite suggestion that perhaps in the future, they could consider choosing a less suicidal route, in the same tone that you might suggest that next time, perhaps they should bring lunch. So far in Overwatch, we've seen her get close to losing her temper exactly one time--When a fellow scientist told her that her work should have been cancelled. Plenty of others have said as much to her, and her replies are usually just a brush-off. What do they know, after all? Can they argue with her results? But receiving criticism from someone who should understand, who should know better, results in a hissing, personal insult, far from the usual mocking sarcasm that she dolls out to lesser individuals. Their ignorance is hardly surprising, but she takes personal insult when the criticism is coming from another scientist. She does show a certain amount of concern for other people, though they are few and far between. It's possible this concern stems simply from those others being subjects for her work, but whether or not empathy is concerned, she shows that she is capable of caring about the wellbeing of other people. This is opposed to her usual attitude when healing others, which tends to involve either being annoyed that they need healing in the first place, or fascination with their injuries. All in all, Moira is not a particularly pleasant individual, but whether or not you agree with her or her methods, she will get the job done. Powers and Abilities: Minister of Genetics Moira, whether you agree with her methods or not, is undeniably one of the most knowledgable genetic scientists around. It's what got Reyes to recruit her to Blackwatch, then Talon, and what made her rise to her position as Minister in Oasis, a city that runs on science. Biotic Grasp Moira has the ability to both heal, and drain life from others. One hand gives, and the other takes. Her right hand has been genetically modified, thanks to her own self-experimentation, to be able to leech health away from others. Conversely, her left hand can use biotic energy to heal other people. Neither of these necessitate having to touch the other person, her right hand can simply grasp at others, and her left hand turns the healing spray into a fine mist. While these can be done without touching the other people, the distance is still fairly limited, and Moira needs to be close by for it to be effective. The mist in particular, while capable of healing multiple people, requires them to basically be standing right next to each other, or one in front of the other. She can only heal others so much at one time. It's a limited resource, and while it does replenish over time, she can more quickly replenish it by sapping health away from others. Biotic Orb When she needs to reach distances, or multiple people, Moira can use her biotic orbs. These are small spheres that float through the air, bouncing off solid surfaces, until they reach a target--they will keep traveling, but slow when encountering a target, lightly tracking them. The orbs are capable of either healing or dealing damage--like with her hands, they are distinct, and she needs to pick one or the other before releasing the orb. These orbs have a limited amount of damage or healing, but can spread it out to as many people as the orb can touch. Fade Moira's best ability to escape a situation. To onlookers, she seemingly disappears into a puff of smoke, and reappears shortly thereafter in a different place. She, however, can see where she's going, and can move faster in a Fade than normally. While she's in a Fade, she's invulnerable, though this will only last a second or two, and needs to be well-timed in order to escape attacks. Coalescence Moira's ultimate ability. She channels both her healing and damaging biotic energies into a single beam, which can do either healing or damage, depending on if she points it at ally or enemy. It's a strong attack that can kill or save a life, entirely at Moira's discretion. Inventory: Samples: [x] | [x] | [x] |
